Prairie View at Grambling

GRAMBLING, La. (Interstat) — The Grambling Tigers will look to complete a series sweep of the Prairie View A&M Panthers in a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gym, though wet weather could be a factor.

First pitch is scheduled for the evening, with a forecast of 73 degrees and rain.

Grambling (14-22) has taken the first two games of the series, winning 12-2 on Friday and 8-6 on Saturday. The Tigers’ bullpen was pivotal in the latter victory, with Hampton Phillips and Rafael Capistran combining for 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief after starter Keevyn Goss went 4 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs.

Goss (4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 6 K on Saturday) is a player to watch for Grambling. His recent outings have been mixed, including a win over Jackson State on April 2 and a tough loss to Southern on April 11.

Prairie View (5-28) will aim to avoid the sweep behind a key arm. The player to watch for the Panthers is Isaac Herrera, who delivered five hitless innings of relief in Saturday’s loss, allowing just one earned run. In his last four appearances, he has not allowed a hit in three of them, spanning 10 2/3 innings.

The Panthers’ offense showed signs of life Saturday, led by Ethan Walker’s three-hit performance, but converting opportunities remains a challenge. Prairie View has lost 10 of its last 11 games.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a low-scoring Grambling victory, 3-1, with the Tigers given a 67.4% probability to win by its ELO rating system.

Following the series finale, Grambling travels to face Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday. Prairie View’s next game is also Tuesday at Houston Christian.
