Archibald’s Stellar Start Powers Navy to Doubleheader Opener Win

WORCESTER, Mass. (Interstat) — Matt Archibald threw five no-hit innings and the Navy offense erupted early as the Midshipmen defeated Holy Cross 9-5 in the first game of a Patriot League doubleheader on Saturday.

Archibald struck out five and did not allow an earned run, dominating the Crusaders’ lineup. Navy’s batters provided immediate support, scoring three runs in the first inning and totaling 11 hits. Evan Brown hit a solo home run and Victor Izquierdo added an RBI single.

Holy Cross scored four unearned runs and got a late inside-the-park home run from Alex Sandell. The loss dropped the Crusaders to 16-22 overall, while Navy improved to 25-14. The teams met again for the second game of the twin bill later Saturday.
