Huskies Hold Off Zips Rally, Secure Series Win

AKRON, Ohio (Interstat) — Caden Robertson homered twice and drove in three runs as Northern Illinois outlasted Akron 8-6 in a Mid-American Conference baseball game Saturday at InfoCision Stadium.

The Huskies built an 8-0 lead by the seventh inning, powered by Robertson’s two-run shot in the seventh and a solo homer in the ninth. Vinny Spotofora also hit a solo home run for Northern Illinois (22-11).

The Zips (15-23) rallied with four runs in the fourth on Easton Amundson’s three-run homer and added two more in the eighth, but could not complete the comeback. Amundson finished with four RBIs.

Northern Illinois pitchers Danny Cihocki and Blake Gaskey combined to allow six hits. The teams conclude their three-game series Sunday.
