Broncos Edge Cardinal in Pitchers’ Duel at Sunken Diamond
PALO ALTO, Calif. (Interstat) — Santa Clara managed just two hits but made them count in a 2-1 victory over Stanford on Wednesday at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond.
The Broncos scored both runs in the seventh inning. With two on, Jake Devine delivered a two-run single to left field, plating Connor Ross and Michael Luetzow. That erased a 1-0 lead Stanford built in the second on a groundout by Braden Stoll.
The game was dominated by pitching. Nine Santa Clara relievers combined to allow just four hits, with Jack Lazark, Vincent Braga, RJ Meyn, Andrew Habermann, Sebastian Schreiber and Max Reimers all throwing scoreless innings. Stanford’s bullpen was equally sharp, as Colt Peterson, Mike Erspamer and Toran O’Harran each pitched at least two hitless frames.
Santa Clara improved to 14-21. Stanford fell to 16-17.
