San Jose State at California

BERKELEY, Calif. (Interstat) — The California Golden Bears, riding momentum from a road sweep, return to Evans Diamond on Wednesday to host the San Jose State Spartans in a nonconference midweek matchup.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PDT on April 15.

The Golden Bears (18-16) enter having won four straight, including a dominant three-game sweep at Pittsburgh where they outscored the Panthers 39-9. A key catalyst has been catcher Hideki Prather, who drove in eight runs in the series. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a career-high six RBIs in Sunday’s 13-2 rout.

They face a San Jose State squad (14-20) looking to rebound after losing two of three at Nevada, including a 5-4 defeat on Sunday. The Spartans’ recent strength has been starting pitcher Dylan Smith. In his last start on April 12, the right-hander threw six no-hit innings against the Wolf Pack, allowing one earned run with four strikeouts, though he received a no-decision.

The teams last met on March 10, 2026, in San Jose, with the Spartans claiming a 3-2 victory.

California’s offense, which averaged 13 runs per game in Pittsburgh, will test a San Jose State pitching staff that has a 6.12 team ERA. The Golden Bears’ team ERA of 4.82 will face a Spartan lineup hitting .265 collectively.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is California 5, San Jose State 3.

Following this game, California opens a three-game home series against Louisville on Friday. San Jose State begins a Mountain West Conference series at Fresno State on Friday.
