Bulls Ride Early Outburst, Stellar Bullpen to Upset Hurricanes

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Interstat) — South Florida scored four times in the first inning and its bullpen threw 3 1/3 perfect frames to secure a 4-2 win over Miami on Wednesday at Mark Light Field.

The Bulls sent nine men to the plate in the opening frame against Hurricanes starter TJ Coats. Lance Trippel and Joey Brenczewski each drove in runs, with Brenczewski’s third-inning solo homer providing the final margin.

After Dominic Pontbriant allowed two first-inning runs over 5 2/3 strong innings, the South Florida relief trio of Ethan Sutton, Landen Yorek and Lawson Gailey retired all 10 batters they faced. Miami managed just six hits, with Max Galvin notching an RBI single.

The victory improved South Florida to 26-10, while the Hurricanes fell to 27-10.
