Richmond at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) — The Richmond Spiders and Old Dominion Monarchs will meet for the second time this season Wednesday at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex, with both teams looking to build momentum ahead of weekend conference series.

First pitch is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 84 degrees.

Richmond (19-16) enters with a slight edge in the overall record, while Old Dominion sits at 16-19. The Monarchs won the previous meeting this season, 7-2, in Richmond on March 25.

A key rematch within the game will feature relievers Bijan Anvar of Richmond and Old Dominion’s Maddox Jack. Both right-handers pitched in that March 25 contest, with Jack earning the win after two innings of work, allowing one unearned run. Anvar struggled, failing to record an out while allowing two hits and one run.

Since that outing, Anvar has rebounded strongly. Over his last five appearances, spanning 5.1 innings, he has allowed just two earned runs and held opponents hitless in four of those games. He was sharp in his last outing Sunday, throwing 1.1 hitless innings with a strikeout in a 5-7 loss at George Mason.

Jack has also been effective lately, posting 0.00 ERAs in two of his last three appearances, including 1.2 hitless innings with a strikeout in Old Dominion’s 5-7 loss at Marshall on Sunday.

The Spiders are coming off a 2-1 series win at George Mason, though they dropped the finale. The Monarchs dropped two of three at Marshall over the weekend but scored a 15-3 midweek victory over William & Mary last Tuesday.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Richmond is projected to win 7-4.

Following Wednesday’s contest, both teams dive back into conference play. Richmond will host Dayton for a three-game series starting Friday, while Old Dominion welcomes Georgia Southern for a weekend set.
