Marshall at Ohio State
Rain Forecast for Wednesday Clash Between Marshall, Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — The Marshall Thundering Herd and Ohio State Buckeyes are set for a midweek nonconference matchup Wednesday at Bill Davis Stadium, though forecasts call for 80-degree temperatures and rain at first pitch.
Marshall (16-18) arrives after taking two of three from Old Dominion, including a 7-5 win Sunday. The Thundering Herd will look to build momentum before a Sun Belt series at South Alabama this weekend.
Ohio State (19-15) is also coming off a series win, having taken two of three from Penn State. The Buckeyes’ offense erupted for 15 runs in Sunday’s victory.
A player to watch for the Thundering Herd is pitcher Charlie Krebs. The right-hander delivered four scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts in Sunday’s win, his second strong long-relief outing in three weeks. He also tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts in a win at Georgia Southern on March 20.
The Buckeyes counter with a hot hitter in Jacob Parr. The designated hitter went 3 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs in Sunday’s victory over Penn State, spearheading the offensive outburst.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-3 Ohio State victory, with its ELO rating system giving the Buckeyes a 56.7% probability to win.
Marshall’s most productive players in its last game were Krebs, first baseman AJ Havrilla (2 for 4, 2 RBIs) and outfielder Evan Bottone (3 for 5, RBI). For Ohio State on Sunday, shortstop Henry Kaczmar (1 for 5, HR, 4 RBIs) and third baseman Maddix Simpson (2 for 5, 3 RBIs) joined Parr with big days at the plate.
Following this contest, Marshall begins a three-game series at South Alabama on Friday. Ohio State opens a Big Ten road series at Purdue on Friday.
