Texas-Arlington at Dallas Baptist

DALLAS (Interstat) — A surging Dallas Baptist lineup will face a Texas-Arlington team coming off its most explosive win of the season when the Patriots host the Mavericks in a nonconference matchup Tuesday at Ellis Davis Field House.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 80 degrees.

The Patriots (21-15) enter on a high note, having won three of four against Sam Houston, including a 5-4, 10-inning victory Sunday. Center fielder Dylan Schlaegel powered that win, going 4 for 5 with two home runs and three RBIs. He is a key bat in a Dallas Baptist order that has averaged over six runs per game during its recent stretch.

The Mavericks (14-20) are looking to build momentum after a 19-1 rout of California Baptist on Saturday, which snapped a three-game skid. Right-hander Danny Valadez was dominant in that victory, tossing 5 1/3 hitless innings with five strikeouts. In his last two appearances, spanning 8 1/3 innings, he has allowed just one earned run while striking out 10.

Valadez’s form provides a contrast to a UTA pitching staff that has struggled at times, while the Mavericks’ offense showed its potential in the 19-run outburst, led by Xavier Melendez (3 for 4, HR, 5 RBIs) and Noah Fields (4 for 5, 2 RBIs).

Dallas Baptist won the previous meeting this season, 6-1, in Arlington on Feb. 24.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects as a high-scoring affair, with a predicted final score of Dallas Baptist 7, Texas-Arlington 6.

Following Tuesday’s game, Dallas Baptist opens a three-game home series against Liberty on Friday. Texas-Arlington begins a series against Sacramento State at home on Friday.
