Vanderbilt at Lipscomb
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Vanderbilt Commodores and Lipscomb Bisons will meet in a midweek nonconference clash Tuesday at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 77 degrees.
Vanderbilt (21-16) enters after dropping a weekend series to Oklahoma, including a 6-5 loss Saturday. The Commodores have shown a potent offense, averaging over seven runs per game in their last 10 contests.
A key catalyst has been third baseman Brodie Johnston, who is 14 for 41 (.341) with four home runs and 14 RBIs over his last 10 games. He went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs in Saturday’s narrow loss.
Lipscomb (15-17) is coming off a series win over Central Arkansas, capped by a 6-5 victory Sunday. The Bisons’ bullpen will be a factor, highlighted by reliever Kaleb Kantola. The right-hander has been sharp lately, tossing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts in Sunday’s win. Over his last five appearances, he has allowed just one earned run in nine innings.
The Commodores hold a historical edge in the series and own a better overall record, but the Bisons are 10-7 at home this season. Vanderbilt will look to build momentum before a crucial Southeastern Conference road series at Kentucky this weekend. Lipscomb aims for a signature win before opening Atlantic Sun Conference play at North Alabama.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Vanderbilt 7, Lipscomb 4.
The game will be Vanderbilt’s final midweek contest before eight straight games against power-conference opponents (Kentucky, Xavier, Texas). Lipscomb faces a quick turnaround, hosting Austin Peay in conference play next weekend after a trip to Tennessee next Tuesday.
