Florida Gulf Coast at Florida Atlantic
Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Atlantic Set for Midweek Clash
BOCA RATON, Fla. (Interstat) — The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles look to continue their winning momentum when they visit the Florida Atlantic Owls in a non-conference matchup Tuesday at FAU Baseball Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 76 degrees.
The Eagles (21-13) enter having won two of their last three, including a 4-1 victory over Jacksonville on Sunday. Third baseman Javier Gorostola powered that win, going 2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Gorostola has shown prolific power recently, with four homers and 10 RBIs in his last six games, though his production has been inconsistent.
Florida Atlantic (17-18) seeks to rebound after an 11-6 loss at Memphis on Sunday, despite a strong performance from designated hitter Ian Collier. Collier went 3 for 5 with two homers and three RBIs in that contest and is 7 for 13 with three home runs over his last three games.
On the mound, FGCU is expected to leverage a bullpen game following Hunter Possehl’s six-inning start Sunday. FAU’s starter is undecided.
The Eagles won the most recent meeting between the in-state programs, a 12-4 road victory on March 17. Interstat’s game simulator projects a tight rematch, favoring Florida Gulf Coast 4-3.
Following Tuesday’s game, Florida Gulf Coast opens a conference series at Queens (N.C.) on Friday. Florida Atlantic begins American Athletic Conference play at home against Tulane on Friday. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Fort Myers on April 28.
