Binghamton at Cornell
ITHACA, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Binghamton baseball team looks to extend its winning streak when it visits struggling Cornell in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon at Hoy Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. under a forecast of rain and 79-degree temperatures.
The Bearcats (17-13) enter on a five-game win streak, including a three-game sweep of Maryland-Baltimore County capped by a 16-5 rout Sunday. Binghamton has won 10 of its last 13.
Conversely, the Big Red (6-20) has lost five straight and 12 of its last 14. Cornell dropped three games at Penn over the weekend, including a 6-5 loss Sunday.
A key matchup features Binghamton right-hander Jackson Mitchell against Cornell left-hander Ethan Hamill. Mitchell is coming off his best start of the season, throwing five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in Sunday’s win. Over his last two outings, he has allowed three earned runs in 10 innings with nine strikeouts.
Hamill has been inconsistent but capable of dominance. He threw five no-hit innings with three strikeouts in a loss at Penn on Sunday. In a win over Dartmouth on April 4, he allowed two earned runs over six innings. However, he was tagged for seven earned runs in 1 2/3 innings by Harvard on March 30.
Binghamton’s offense is rolling, scoring 43 runs during its five-game streak. Matt Bolton and Braylen Gonzalez each drove in two runs in Sunday’s victory.
Cornell’s Luke Johnson, who had two hits and an RBI Sunday, will look to spark a lineup that has been held to three runs or fewer in four of its last five games.
Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-3 Binghamton victory, giving the Bearcats a 66.1% probability to win.
The teams are scheduled to meet again in Binghamton next Tuesday.
Binghamton visits Bryant for a three-game series starting Friday. Cornell hosts Yale for a doubleheader Saturday to open Ivy League play.
