Florida A&M at Jackson State
JACKSON, Miss. (Interstat) — The Florida A&M Rattlers and Jackson State Tigers will conclude a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series Sunday at Braddy Field, with both teams looking to gain momentum in a tightly contested league matchup.
First pitch is scheduled for Sunday afternoon under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 82 degrees.
The series is tied after a dramatic opener. On Friday, Jackson State (13-17) edged Florida A&M (15-16) 5-4 in 11 innings. The Tigers won despite a brilliant start from Rattlers right-hander Caleb Granger, who threw seven no-hit innings, allowing one earned run and striking out five. Jackson State reliever Talmagde Davis earned the win with 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Saturday’s result was not provided.
Granger, coming off his dominant performance, is a key player for the Rattlers. His recent outings have been a mix of excellence and struggle, including a 10-run outing at Prairie View on April 2. For the Tigers, Davis will be a vital arm out of the bullpen after his lengthy Friday effort secured the series-opening victory.
Offensively, Florida A&M catcher Ethan Miller homered in Friday’s loss, while Jackson State shortstop Diego Melendez drove in two runs.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Florida A&M is projected to win Sunday’s finale 8-4.
The Rattlers hold a slight edge in overall record, but both teams have navigated inconsistent seasons. Florida A&M had won four straight before the Friday loss, while Jackson State had dropped five of six prior to its extra-inning victory.
Following Sunday’s game, Florida A&M travels to face North Florida on Tuesday. Jackson State’s next action is a home series against Alabama State beginning Friday.
