Preview: Lafayette Leopards at Navy Midshipmen

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Interstat) — The Navy Midshipmen will look to complete a series sweep when they host the Lafayette Leopards in the finale of a three-game Patriot League baseball series Sunday afternoon at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:12 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature near 66 degrees.

Navy (19-13) has dominated the series so far, outscoring Lafayette 18-1 through the first two games, including a 9-1 victory on Friday. The Midshipmen have won seven of their last 10 games.

Lafayette (7-22) seeks to salvage the final game and snap a four-game skid. The Leopards have struggled offensively in the series, held scoreless in both games Saturday.

A key matchup will feature two pitchers coming off strong outings in Friday’s contest. Navy will start senior right-hander Brady Bendik, who earned the win after allowing one run on eight hits with nine strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings. Bendik has been dominant in Patriot League play, pitching 22 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings against conference foes before Friday’s lone run.

For Lafayette, a player to watch is reliever Antonio Correa. The right-hander provided three scoreless innings of hitless relief with three strikeouts against Navy on Friday. Over his last three appearances, Correa has not allowed a hit in 4 2/3 innings.

Despite the recent results, Interstat’s game simulator projects a close contest, favoring Lafayette 5-4.

Following Sunday’s game, Navy travels to face George Washington on Tuesday. Lafayette’s next game is at Saint Peter’s on Wednesday.
