Florida State at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA (Interstat) — The Florida State Seminoles look to even a pivotal Atlantic Coast Conference series against the fifth-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Friday at Russ Chandler Stadium.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. EDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 63 degrees.

Georgia Tech (26-5, 8-2 ACC) took the series opener 4-3 on Thursday, handing Florida State (24-9, 6-7) its third one-run loss in its last four games. The Seminoles have dropped four of their last six overall, while the Yellow Jackets have won 14 of their last 15.

A player to watch for Florida State is reliever Cooper Whited. The right-hander has been dominant in recent outings, not allowing a hit in three of his last four appearances. Over his last 15.1 innings pitched, he has surrendered just four hits total while striking out 16. He will be a key piece in containing a potent Georgia Tech lineup.

That lineup is powered by Kent Schmidt. The Yellow Jackets’ slugger is coming off a two-homer, three-RBI performance in Tuesday’s win over Kennesaw State. In his last 10 games, Schmidt has driven in 13 runs, providing consistent production in the heart of the order.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair with Georgia Tech winning 7-6. However, the same service’s ELO rating system gives Florida State a slight edge, projecting the Seminoles with a 52.2% probability to win.

The series concludes Saturday before both teams turn their attention to midweek non-conference action. Florida State hosts Stetson next Tuesday, while Georgia Tech welcomes Georgia Southern.
