Southern California at UC Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Interstat) — The Southern California Trojans, looking to rebound from a series sweep, travel to face the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in a non-conference rematch Tuesday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 72 degrees.
The Trojans (27-6), who were swept at UCLA last weekend, will face a Gauchos squad (19-10) riding a three-game winning streak after sweeping Cal Poly. USC holds a 1-0 edge this season after a 7-6 home win over UCSB on March 31.
A key matchup features USC’s hot-hitting Augie Lopez against UCSB right-hander Kellan Montgomery. Lopez is batting .419 (13-for-31) with five home runs and 14 RBIs over his last 10 games, including a 2-for-3 performance with a homer in Sunday’s loss. Montgomery is coming off a dominant outing, throwing six no-hit innings with one earned run in a win over Cal Poly on April 4.
Despite their recent skid, the Trojans boast one of the nation’s top records. The Gauchos have won five of their last six, with their only loss in that span a 2-0 defeat to Oregon where Montgomery struck out seven over 4 1/3 innings.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a tight 6-5 victory for Southern California.
Following Tuesday’s contest, USC hosts Iowa for a three-game series starting Friday. UC Santa Barbara begins a Big West Conference series at home against UC San Diego on Friday.
