Tulane, Lamar Meet in Nonconference Tilt
BEAUMONT, Texas (Interstat) — Two teams riding opposite waves of momentum will meet when Tulane visits Lamar for a nonconference baseball game Tuesday night at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 74 degrees.
The Tulane Green Wave (17-16) arrive fresh off an 8-1 road victory over Wichita State on Saturday, powered by a stellar outing from right-hander J.D. Rodriguez. The junior delivered 6 1/3 hitless innings of relief, allowing one earned run while striking out four. Rodriguez has been a key multi-inning weapon for Tulane, though his results have varied; he followed a 6 1/3 inning, one-hit performance on April 4 with a one-inning, two-run outing on March 28.
The Lamar Cardinals (17-15) look to rebound after being swept at home by Oregon State, including a 10-3 loss Saturday. A bright spot in that defeat was reliever Travis Lutz, who provided 3 1/3 solid innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts. Lutz has been effective lately, posting scoreless outings in four of his last five appearances.
Both teams enter with nearly identical overall records. Tulane has won three of its last four, while Lamar has dropped three straight after winning its previous four series.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Tuesday’s contest projects to be a high-scoring affair, with a predicted final of Tulane 6, Lamar 5.
Following this midweek clash, Tulane opens a three-game American Athletic Conference series at home against East Carolina on Friday. Lamar hits the road to begin a Southland Conference series at Nicholls State on Friday.
