Preview: Oklahoma Sooners at Dallas Baptist Patriots
DALLAS (Interstat) — The Oklahoma Sooners look to rebound from a series loss when they visit the Dallas Baptist Patriots in a nonconference matchup Monday at Ellis Davis Field House.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 65 degrees.
Oklahoma (21-10) enters after dropping two of three at home to Alabama, including a 3-2 loss Saturday. The Sooners’ bullpen was a bright spot in the defeat, with Gavyn Jones, Jason Bodin and Nick Wesloski combining for six scoreless innings of relief.
Jones, a key arm out of the pen, has been particularly effective lately. Over his last six appearances spanning 6.1 innings, he has allowed just two earned runs while striking out six. He has not allowed a hit in his last five outings.
Dallas Baptist (18-14) also aims to bounce back after a 5-4 loss at Kennesaw State on Saturday. Patriots starter Ryan Borberg was brilliant in a no-decision, throwing six no-hit innings with eight strikeouts. His recent outings have been a mix of dominance and struggle, including a five-run outing against Delaware on March 22.
The Patriots’ offense was led by designated hitter Luke Pettitte, who went 2 for 5 in the loss.
This is a rematch of a March 3 meeting in Norman, which Oklahoma won 2-0. The Sooners have lost three of their last five games, while the Patriots have won seven of their last ten.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Dallas Baptist is projected to win 6-4.
Oklahoma begins a three-game series at Vanderbilt on Thursday. Dallas Baptist opens a series at Sam Houston on Friday.
