Wake Forest at Pittsburgh
Rain Threatens ACC Series Finale Between Wake Forest, Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will look to complete a road sweep of the Pittsburgh Panthers on Sunday afternoon in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup, though wet weather could impact the series finale at Petersen Sports Complex.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon, but the forecast calls for rain and a temperature of 79 degrees.
Wake Forest (23-9, 8-6 ACC) has dominated the first two games of the series, winning 8-2 on Friday and 22-8 in a seven-inning run-rule victory on Saturday. The Demon Deacons have won seven of their last eight games.
Pittsburgh (20-9, 7-7) will aim to salvage a game in the set and halt a two-game skid after its potent offense was stifled following a 27-run outburst against Mercyhurst on Tuesday.
A player to watch for Wake Forest is right fielder Luke Costello, who is 4 for 7 with two home runs and six RBIs in the series. In Saturday’s blowout, he went 3 for 4 with a homer and four RBIs. For the Panthers, third baseman Kai Wagner has been a bright spot, collecting three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs over the two losses.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Pittsburgh 7, Wake Forest 6.
Following Sunday’s game, Wake Forest travels to Durham, North Carolina, for a neutral-site game against Coastal Carolina on Tuesday before an ACC series at Miami. Pittsburgh visits Youngstown State on Tuesday before hosting Akron and a non-conference series against California next weekend.
