Dartmouth at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum to open Ivy League play will meet under rainy skies Saturday when Dartmouth visits Cornell for a doubleheader opener at Hoy Field.

Forecasts call for a 67-degree first pitch with rain, potentially complicating the opener of a three-game weekend set. Both the Big Green (4-14) and the Big Red (4-16) have struggled through non-conference play and enter with identical 1-2 records in their early Ivy series.

Dartmouth dropped two of three to Columbia last weekend but followed with a strong pitching performance in a narrow 4-3 midweek loss at Massachusetts-Lowell. Aidan Plummer was a bright spot in that defeat, throwing three hitless, scoreless innings of relief. The right-hander has not allowed a hit over his last 5 1/3 innings spanning three appearances.

Cornell also comes off a midweek loss, falling 12-6 at Army on Tuesday despite a powerful showing from shortstop Kevin Hager. The junior went 3 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs in that contest. Hager has been a consistent bat for the Big Red, recording a hit in eight of his last ten games.

The series marks the start of the Ivy League’s home-and-home round-robin schedule. According to Interstat’s game simulator, Cornell holds a slight projection advantage, with a predicted final score of 3-1.

Following Saturday’s doubleheader, the teams are scheduled to conclude the series Sunday afternoon, weather permitting. Dartmouth will visit Boston College next Wednesday, while Cornell will travel to Penn next weekend.
