Holy Cross Rallies From Five-Run Deficit to Rout Army in Doubleheader Opener
WORCESTER, Mass. (Interstat) — Holy Cross scored six runs in the first inning to erase an early five-run deficit and cruised to an 11-5 victory over Army in the first game of a Patriot League doubleheader on Saturday.
Thomas Schreck hit a two-run homer in the top of the first for the Black Knights. The Crusaders responded immediately, sending 11 batters to the plate in the bottom half, capitalizing on Army miscues to take the lead for good. CJ Egrie drove in three runs for Holy Cross.
Winning pitcher Jaden Wywoda threw five innings of relief, allowing two runs and striking out six. Army starter Mark Abell took the loss. Holy Cross improved to 11-16 overall, while Army fell to 15-12.
