GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — Elon erupted for four first-inning runs and cruised to a 10-3 victory over North Carolina A&T in a Colonial Athletic Association baseball game Friday.

The Phoenix (12-17, 1-0 CAA) pounded out 12 hits, led by Mariano, who homered and singled in a run. Elon scored in five different innings, including a two-run single by Hall in the sixth.

The Aggies (8-20, 0-1) were held to three runs on eight hits. JT Taylor provided their biggest highlight with a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Luis Acevedo added a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Elon’s early offensive burst defied a Interstat projection that had favored North Carolina A&T by a 5-2 margin. The teams continue their series Saturday.
