Florida State Evens Series as Beard, Carns Lead Seminoles Past Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Interstat) — Trey Beard and John Abraham combined on a two-hitter, and Hunter Carns hit a two-run homer to lead Florida State to a 5-2 victory over Virginia in Atlantic Coast Conference baseball Friday evening at Davenport Field.

The Seminoles (23-7, 4-6 ACC) avenged a one-run loss from Thursday. Beard, the top star, earned the win with five innings of one-hit ball, allowing two earned runs while striking out seven. Abraham was dominant in relief, striking out six over four hitless innings.

Florida State built a 5-0 lead, keyed by Carns’ two-run shot in the sixth. Virginia (24-8, 8-5) scored on an RBI single by Joe Tiroly in the fifth and a solo homer from Jake Weatherspoon in the sixth but could not close the gap. The Cavaliers’ Kevin Jaxel provided three scoreless relief innings.
