Virginia Tech at Radford

Hokies, Highlanders Set for Midweek Clash in Fairlawn

FAIRLAWN, Va. (Interstat) — Two teams riding the .500 mark will meet Tuesday when the Virginia Tech Hokies visit the Radford Highlanders at Radford Baseball Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2026, under cloudy skies with temperatures near 67 degrees.

Both squads enter at an even keel, with Virginia Tech at 13-13 overall and Radford at 12-12. The Hokies are coming off a 6-3, 10-inning home loss to Stanford on Sunday, while the Highlanders fell 6-5 to Longwood the same day.

A key matchup will feature Virginia Tech right-hander Griffin Stieg, who is expected to start. Stieg has been a workhorse, pitching at least six innings in two of his last four outings. His most dominant performance was a six-inning, one-run, no-hit effort with seven strikeouts in a win at Virginia on March 15. He took the loss Sunday against Stanford, allowing three earned runs over six innings.

Radford will counter with right-hander Daniel Quintana, who started and pitched effectively in Sunday’s loss to Longwood. Quintana logged five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out six. His season has been a mix of roles, with recent appearances ranging from one to five innings.

The Hokies’ offense will look to rebound after being held to three runs on Sunday. They had scored 10 runs in a win over Stanford the previous day. Radford’s bats were quieted late in their series finale, managing just five hits in the one-run loss.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Virginia Tech is projected for a narrow 5-4 victory.

This contest is the first of a home-and-home series between the regional foes, who are scheduled to meet again in Blacksburg on April 14.

Virginia Tech opens Atlantic Coast Conference play at Miami (FL) this weekend. Radford begins Big South Conference action at home against South Carolina Upstate on Thursday.
