Georgia State at Georgia
GEORGIA STATE, GEORGIA SET FOR MIDWEEK MATCHUP
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — The Georgia Bulldogs, riding high after a series win over South Carolina, host intrastate foe Georgia State on Tuesday at Foley Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature near 71 degrees.
The Bulldogs (23-6) have won eight of their last 10 and are coming off a 9-7 victory Sunday to clinch their SEC series. They are heavily favored against a Panthers squad that is 13-16 and has lost five of its last six.
Georgia’s offense is powered by catcher Daniel Jackson, who went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in Sunday’s win. Over his last 10 games, Jackson is batting .324 with two home runs and 11 RBIs.
The Panthers are looking to rebound from a weekend sweep by Texas State, capped by a 12-3 loss Sunday. A bright spot in that defeat was reliever Niall Todd, who threw two hitless innings with two strikeouts. Todd has allowed just one earned run over his last five appearances, spanning five innings, with 10 strikeouts.
Interstat gives Georgia an 84.8% probability to win, with a projected final score of 7-3.
This is the first meeting of the season between the programs. Georgia State visits Louisiana-Monroe for a weekend series starting Thursday. Georgia opens a three-game SEC road series at Mississippi State on Thursday.
