Texas-San Antonio at Incarnate Word
SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The UTSA Roadrunners, riding a three-game winning streak, will look to continue their strong season when they visit the Incarnate Word Cardinals in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening at Roadrunner Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures around 85 degrees.
The Roadrunners (20-8) enter with momentum after a series win over East Carolina, capped by a dramatic 8-7 victory in 10 innings on Sunday. UTSA’s bullpen was pivotal in that win, a trend they hope continues. A key figure is right-hander Connor Kelley, who earned the win Sunday with 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Kelley has been dominant in four of his last five outings, including a six-inning, six-strikeout shutout performance against New Mexico State on March 6.
The Incarnate Word Cardinals (13-14) aim to rebound after being shut out 9-0 at Lamar on Sunday. The Cardinals have lost four of their last six. Right-hander Braelin Pillot is a player to watch out of the bullpen for UIW. He has not allowed a hit in his last three appearances, spanning 4 2/3 innings, though he was charged with two unearned runs in his most recent outing.
Offensively, UTSA’s Jacob Silva provided a key late-inning homer in Sunday’s victory. The Roadrunners have shown potent scoring ability, averaging over seven runs per game during their current streak.
The Cardinals took two of three from Nicholls State at home last weekend before the Lamar series and will look to leverage home field again. Rand Green and Samuel Pitts provided scoreless relief in Sunday’s loss.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is UTSA 7, Incarnate Word 5.
This is the first meeting between the programs this season. Following this game, UTSA begins a three-game series at Rice on Thursday. Incarnate Word opens a Southland Conference series at home against Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday.
