Tennessee Tech at SIU Edwardsville
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (Interstat) — The SIU Edwardsville Cougars will look to complete a series sweep when they host the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in an Ohio Valley Conference baseball matchup Sunday afternoon at Roy E. Lee Field at Simmons Baseball Complex.
First pitch is scheduled for the evening under clear skies with temperatures around 50 degrees.
The Cougars (13-14, 2-0 OVC) have dominated the first two games of the series, winning 6-1 on Friday and 8-1 on Saturday. SIUE right-hander Spencer Stearns was stellar in Saturday’s victory, allowing one run on three hits over eight innings while striking out six.
Tennessee Tech (9-18, 0-2) will aim to salvage the finale and avoid the sweep. A player to watch for the Golden Eagles is Cooper Casteel, who delivered a strong long-relief performance in Saturday’s loss. Casteel pitched 6 2/3 innings of hitless relief, allowing two earned runs and striking out five after entering the game in the first inning.
Stearns has been a key part of SIUE’s rotation, earning wins in three of his last four starts. Before his outing against Tennessee Tech, he threw seven scoreless innings in a win over Morehead State on March 21.
The Golden Eagles have lost five straight games and nine of their last ten. Their offense has been stifled in Edwardsville, managing just two total runs in the series so far.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-2 victory for the Cougars.
Following Sunday’s contest, Tennessee Tech travels to face Western Kentucky on Tuesday. SIU Edwardsville’s next action is a conference series at Southern Indiana beginning April 2.
