Tennessee Tech at SIU Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (Interstat) — The SIU Edwardsville Cougars will look to secure a series victory when they host the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup Saturday at Roy E. Lee Field at Simmons Baseball Complex.

First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a temperature of 51 degrees.

The Cougars (12-14) took the series opener Friday afternoon, 6-1, behind a dominant pitching performance. SIUE right-hander Tim Teixeira is expected to get the start after throwing seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out nine in that victory. On the season, Teixeira is 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA.

Tennessee Tech (9-17) will aim to even the series and halt a four-game skid. The Golden Eagles are projected to start right-hander Jaxson Pease, who took the loss Friday despite a strong outing. Pease pitched 5 2/3 innings, surrendering four earned runs with five strikeouts. He is 2-3 with a 4.66 ERA this season.

The Cougars’ offense was powered by catcher Sean Kang in the opener, who went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. SIUE has won three of its last five games.

Tennessee Tech has struggled on the road, with Friday’s loss dropping its away record to 3-10. The Golden Eagles’ bullpen has been taxed, having used three pitchers in the opener and facing a 15-5 midweek loss at Vanderbilt.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-2 victory for SIU Edwardsville.

Following Saturday’s contest, the series concludes Sunday afternoon. SIUE then travels to face Southern Indiana for a three-game set starting Thursday. Tennessee Tech visits Western Kentucky on Tuesday before hosting Eastern Illinois next weekend.
