OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — The Omaha Mavericks and Creighton Bluejays will meet for the second time in a week Tuesday at Sapp Fieldhouse, with the crosstown rivals looking to steady their seasons.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 47 degrees.

The Bluejays (9-11) won the previous meeting 8-2 on March 18 and enter on a three-game skid after being swept at Miami (Fla.). Creighton shortstop Ben North has been a bright spot, hitting .429 (6 for 14) with a home run and six RBIs over his last five games. In Sunday’s 15-5 loss to the Hurricanes, North went 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs.

The Mavericks (8-13) are also seeking momentum after dropping a 10-inning, 8-7 decision to Northern Colorado on Sunday. Utility player Sam Beck is a key figure for Omaha, contributing both on the mound and at the plate. In his last three pitching appearances, Beck has allowed just one earned run over 12 1/3 innings, striking out 11. He also had two hits in the March 18 loss to Creighton.

Both teams have struggled for consistency. Omaha has lost four of its last five, while Creighton has dropped four of its last six following a five-game win streak.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final is Creighton 5, Omaha 4.

Following Tuesday’s contest, Creighton will host South Dakota State on Wednesday. Omaha travels to face Saint Thomas (Minn.) in a three-game series starting Friday.
