Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Texas-San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, riding high after a series win at Florida Atlantic, host in-state foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a midweek non-conference matchup Tuesday at Roadrunner Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with a forecast temperature of 85 degrees.
UTSA (17-7) enters with significant momentum, having won two of three on the road against Florida Atlantic, including an 18-8 rout Sunday. The Roadrunners’ offense was led in that game by Jacob Silva, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Silva, a key player to watch, is 9 for 24 (.375) over his last eight games.
The Islanders (11-13) look to rebound from a draining, high-scoring series loss to Lamar, which culminated in a 15-18, 10-inning defeat on Sunday. Despite the loss, outfielder Isaiah Afework provided a bright spot, going 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs. Afework has shown power recently, with two home runs and six RBIs in his last 10 games, including a 2-for-5, three-RBI performance in the teams’ previous meeting this season.
That meeting was on March 3 in Corpus Christi, where UTSA emerged with a 7-5 victory.
The Roadrunners hold a distinct advantage in season record and recent form. UTSA has won six of its last nine games, while the Islanders have dropped seven of their last ten.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, UTSA is projected to win 5-3.
Following this game, UTSA opens a three-game home series against East Carolina on Friday. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi begins a South Texas series at Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Friday.
