Preview: Texas-Arlington Mavericks at Sam Houston Bearkats

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (March 24, 2026) (Interstat) — The Sam Houston Bearkats look to climb above .500 when they host the Texas-Arlington Mavericks in a non-conference matchup Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 81 degrees.

Sam Houston (11-12) enters after taking two of three on the road at Florida International, including a 7-1 victory Sunday. The Bearkats’ bullpen has been a strength, highlighted by right-hander Jonathan Anders. He tossed five perfect innings of relief with three strikeouts in Sunday’s win. Over his last 10 appearances, Anders has allowed just two earned runs in 14.2 innings, holding opponents to a .098 batting average.

Texas-Arlington (8-15) snapped a three-game skid with a 12-6 home win over Saint John’s on Sunday. The Mavericks’ offense broke out for 12 hits, with third baseman Austin Phillips driving in two runs. UTA has struggled for consistency, however, losing 10 of its last 14 games.

A key player to watch for the Mavericks is reliever Merek Sears, who earned the win Sunday with 3.1 innings of one-run ball. Sears has been effective in stretches this season, including three scoreless outings in his last five appearances.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 victory for the home-standing Bearkats.

Following Tuesday’s contest, Sam Houston opens a three-game home series against Western Kentucky on Friday. Texas-Arlington begins a three-game set with Villanova at home on Friday.
