Radford at James Madison
HARRISONBURG, Va. (Interstat) — The James Madison Dukes and Radford Highlanders will meet for the second time this season under the lights Tuesday at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park, with both teams looking to steady themselves after recent series losses.
First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday evening in clear conditions with temperatures around 53 degrees.
The Dukes (11-11) return home after being swept in a three-game series at Coastal Carolina, capped by a 16-6 loss Sunday. Designated hitter Jack Cannizzaro provided a bright spot in that finale, going 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Cannizzaro has driven in seven runs over his last five appearances, including a home run against Georgia Southern on March 13.
Radford (9-11) also seeks momentum after dropping two of three to Virginia Military Institute over the weekend, including a 9-1 defeat Sunday. The Highlanders won the previous meeting between these teams, 4-2, in Radford on March 10.
A key figure from that Radford victory, reliever Joshua Milleville, is a player to watch. He pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout against the Dukes earlier this month. Milleville comes off a strong long-relief outing Sunday, allowing one earned run over 4 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.
Both bullpens could be busy early in this midweek non-conference matchup. James Madison’s offense will aim to rebound from a weekend where it was outscored 38-8 at Coastal Carolina. Radford’s lineup must improve after managing just one run in each of its two losses to VMI.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, James Madison is projected to win 5-3.
Following this contest, James Madison opens Sun Belt Conference play on the road at Arkansas State this weekend. Radford begins Big South Conference action at home against Longwood.
