Pittsburgh at Kent State

KENT, Ohio (Interstat) — A cold, wet evening awaits two of the nation’s hotter teams when the Pittsburgh Panthers visit the Kent State Golden Flashes for a non-conference midweek baseball game Tuesday at Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT under a forecast of 35-degree temperatures and rain.

The Panthers (15-6), coming off a weekend series loss to Georgia Tech, travel to face a Kent State squad (18-4) riding a six-game winning streak. The Golden Flashes have won 14 of their last 15 games.

A key matchup will feature Pittsburgh shortstop Caden Dulin against Kent State’s pitching staff. Dulin is coming off a three-RBI performance Sunday, including a home run, and has hits in five of his last seven games.

Kent State is expected to start right-hander Ben Rabatin, who has been dominant in recent midweek outings. In his last start March 22 at Massachusetts, Rabatin threw six no-hit innings with seven strikeouts. Over his last four appearances, spanning 21 innings, he has allowed just six earned runs while striking out 30.

Pittsburgh dropped two of three to Georgia Tech over the weekend, including a 12-4 loss Sunday. Kent State completed a road sweep of Massachusetts with a 9-8 victory Sunday, a game in which Rabatin starred.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a tight, high-scoring affair, predicting a 7-6 Kent State victory.

The Panthers begin Atlantic Coast Conference play at Louisville this weekend. Kent State opens Mid-American Conference action at home against Miami (Ohio) on Friday.
