PORTLAND PILOTS (13-7) AT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT LIONS (7-18)

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The surging Portland Pilots will aim for a series sweep when they face the struggling Loyola Marymount Lions in an evening matchup Sunday at Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 86 degrees.

Portland has dominated the first two games of the series, winning 5-3 on Friday and 13-4 on Saturday. The Pilots have won seven of their last eight games overall.

A key factor has been the two-way performance of Trey Swygart. In Friday’s series opener, Swygart went 3 for 3 at the plate with two home runs and three RBIs, and also pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief with seven strikeouts. For the season, he has contributed both as a power hitter and a reliable arm out of the bullpen.

The Lions will look to salvage the final game of the series and halt a four-game skid. They will likely lean on starter Jonah Johnson, who took the loss Friday despite striking out six over 5 2/3 innings. Johnson’s season has been inconsistent, highlighted by a seven-inning, 11-strikeout no-hit performance in a win over Abilene Christian on March 13, but marred by other outings where he has struggled with command.

The Lions’ bullpen will be under pressure after Saturday’s lopsided defeat, while Portland’s offense looks to continue its momentum after a 13-run, 15-hit outburst.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projection favors the Pilots to complete the sweep with a 7-3 victory.

Following the series, Portland returns home to host Northwestern on Tuesday before opening a series with Saint Mary’s. Loyola Marymount travels to face UCLA on Tuesday before a midweek home game against Cal Poly.
