Alabama A&M at Grambling

SOUTHWESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL PREVIEW

GRAMBLING, La. (Interstat) — The Grambling Tigers will look to complete a series sweep when they host the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in the finale of a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference set Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gym.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 81 degrees.

Grambling (8-12) has taken the first two games of the series, including a 19-4 rout on Saturday. The Tigers have won three of their last four SWAC games.

Alabama A&M (5-18) seeks to avoid the sweep and snap a four-game losing skid. The Bulldogs have struggled on the road this season, with Saturday’s loss marking their 12th defeat away from home.

A key matchup will feature Alabama A&M reliever Evan Hurlburt against a potent Grambling lineup. Hurlburt has been a frequent option out of the bullpen, making seven appearances since Feb. 28. However, he has been charged with at least two earned runs in five of those outings, including allowing two runs in 1 2/3 innings in Saturday’s loss to the Tigers.

Grambling’s offense is powered by Cameron Hill, who is coming off a massive performance. The left fielder went 3 for 5 with a home run and a career-high six RBIs in Saturday’s win. In the series opener Friday, he drove in two runs, including the game-winner in a 9-8 victory. For the series, Hill is 4 for 8 with eight RBIs.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Grambling 3, Alabama A&M 2.

Following Sunday’s contest, Alabama A&M will host Middle Tennessee on Tuesday before a SWAC series at Mississippi Valley State next weekend. Grambling travels to face Tulane on Wednesday before hosting Texas Southern in a conference series starting Friday.
