New Orleans at Northwestern State

SOUTHLAND SERIES FINALE SET FOR SUNDAY IN CYPRESS

CYPRESS, La. (Interstat) — The Northwestern State Demons will look to secure a series victory when they host the New Orleans Privateers in the rubber match of a three-game Southland Conference baseball series Sunday afternoon at H. Alvin Brown–C. C. Stroud Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 81 degrees.

Northwestern State (14-9, 2-3 Southland) evened the series with a 6-2 win Saturday behind a complete-game effort from right-hander Dylan Marionneaux. The Demons’ ace allowed seven hits and struck out six. Ethan Menard drove in four runs in the victory.

New Orleans (10-15, 1-4) took the series opener 3-2 on Friday but could not solve Marionneaux a day later. Privateers reliever Jack Garvey provided a bright spot Saturday, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings of hitless relief with three strikeouts.

Garvey, a key arm out of the bullpen, will be a player to watch for the Privateers. In his last outing against the Demons, he stifled their lineup. Northwestern State will counter with the momentum from Marionneaux’s dominant performance and a lineup that produced 12 hits Saturday.

The Demons hold the better overall record and have won four of their last six games. The Privateers have lost three of their last four.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Northwestern State 7, New Orleans 4.

Following Sunday’s contest, Northwestern State travels to face Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday. New Orleans visits Jackson State, also on Tuesday.
