ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Interstat) — A quick rematch awaits at Ray Fisher Stadium on Saturday as the Nebraska Cornhuskers look to even the series against the Michigan Wolverines following a narrow opening loss.
The Big Ten foes will meet for the second of a three-game set after Michigan eked out a 2-1 victory Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon.
Nebraska (16-6), which entered the series riding a six-game winning streak, will aim to rebound behind a pitcher familiar with the Wolverines’ lineup. Left-hander Ty Horn is the expected starter for the Cornhuskers. In Friday’s loss, Horn delivered a dominant but abbreviated performance, striking out eight and allowing no hits over 4 2/3 innings, though he was charged with two earned runs.
Horn has been a strikeout force, fanning 26 batters over his last 20 1/3 innings across four appearances.
Michigan (11-9) will counter with right-hander Kurt Barr, who earned the win in Friday’s contest. Barr was stellar, holding Nebraska to one run on six hits while striking out 10 over seven strong innings. He has allowed just one earned run over his last 18 innings pitched.
The Wolverines’ offense, which managed only three hits Friday, will need to find more production against a deep Nebraska pitching staff that saw Caleb Clark and Tucker Timmerman combine for three scoreless relief innings in the opener.
According to Interstat, the Cornhuskers are projected favorites. The service’s game simulator predicts an 8-5 Nebraska victory, and its ELO rating system gives the Cornhuskers a 55.3% probability to win Saturday.
The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies and a game-time temperature of 68 degrees.
Following Saturday’s contest, the series finale is set for Sunday afternoon. Nebraska then travels to face Kansas State on Tuesday, while Michigan hosts Oakland.
