NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Interstat) — Cort Lowry threw six no-hit innings and the Tarleton State Texans survived a late Stephen F. Austin rally for a 9-8 victory in a Western Athletic Conference opener Friday at Jaycees Field.

Lowry allowed three earned runs with four strikeouts before the Lumberjacks’ offense erupted for six runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by Julian Swift’s grand slam. Swift finished with five RBIs.

Tarleton State built its lead with a 12-hit attack. Slade McCloud and Rayner Heinrich each drove in two runs, while Cage McCloud and Jake Tatom homered. Jackson Elizondo and Ben Bosse combined for the final four outs in relief.

The Texans improved to 14-7. The Lumberjacks fell to 12-10. The series continues Saturday.
