CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — Lipscomb built an early 11-run lead and withstood a powerful response from Cole Johnson to defeat Austin Peay 11-8 in an ASUN Conference baseball opener Friday at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The Bisons (9-10) scored 10 runs in the second and third innings, highlighted by Blake Carter’s solo homer and a two-run double from Cam Pruitt. The Governors (11-11) answered with a six-run third, fueled by Johnson’s two home runs, including a grand slam. He finished 4 for 5 with five RBIs.

Lipscomb starter Adam Jamison earned the win with 4 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one earned run. The Bisons’ bullpen, featuring Collin Bosley-Smith and Kaleb Kantola, threw three hitless innings to seal the win. Austin Peay outhit Lipscomb 12-7 but stranded 10 baserunners.

The teams continue the series Saturday.
