Rain Threatens Showdown Between Hot Eagles, Owls in Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 17, 2026) (Interstat) — A potential weather-shortened midweek clash featuring two of the state’s hottest teams is set for Tuesday as the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles visit the Florida Atlantic Owls at FAU Baseball Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT, though the forecast of 82-degree temperatures and rain looms over the non-conference matchup.

The Eagles (16-4) enter with the state’s best record, having won 11 of their last 13 games. They are coming off a three-game sweep of Queens (N.C.), capped by a 4-2 win Saturday. Hunter Possehl was dominant in that victory, striking out eight over five scoreless innings. The right-hander, a key player to watch, has been brilliant in three of his last five outings but was tagged for eight earned runs in just three combined innings in the other two.

Florida Atlantic (13-7) has won seven of its last nine, including a 4-3, 10-inning win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Sunday. Reliever Bryan Boully earned the win with three shutout innings, continuing a strong stretch where he has not allowed an earned run in five of his last seven appearances. The Owls’ bullpen, led by Boully, will be critical.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, favoring FAU 7-6.

The Eagles’ offense is powered by first baseman Jaret Nelson, who homered in Saturday’s win. FAU’s lineup recently erupted for 10 runs in an 11-inning win over UMBC on Friday.

Both teams face challenging weekend series ahead. FGCU travels to North Florida for an ASUN Conference series starting Friday, while FAU opens American Athletic Conference play at home against Texas-San Antonio.

A decision on potential weather delays will be made closer to game time.
