Bulldogs Battle Indoors as Citadel Visits Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — An intrastate clash of Bulldogs is set for Tuesday evening, but weather has forced the game indoors.
The Citadel Bulldogs (8-9) will face the sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (17-4) at Athens Olympic Indoor Hall after forecasts called for 44-degree temperatures and rain. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Georgia, riding high after taking two of three from then-Tennessee over the weekend, enters as a heavy favorite. Interstat’s analytics give Georgia an 87.6% probability to win, with a projected final score of 7-4.
The home Bulldogs’ lineup features power hitter Bryce Calloway, who delivered a pivotal pinch-hit, three-run homer in Sunday’s 8-7 series-clinching win over the Volunteers. Calloway has two home runs and five RBIs in his last eight appearances.
The visiting Bulldogs from The Citadel are coming off a series win at Tennessee-Martin, including an 8-4 victory Sunday. Reliever CJ Van Slooten has been a bright spot, not allowing an earned run in his last four appearances spanning 7 1/3 innings. In Sunday’s win, he threw three hitless innings with three strikeouts.
Georgia’s potent offense, which has scored 10 or more runs nine times this season, will test a Citadel pitching staff that has been inconsistent. The Citadel’s recent road series at Kentucky saw them allow 35 runs in three games.
This is a final tune-up for both teams before conference play intensifies. Georgia opens Southeastern Conference action Friday at Texas A&M. The Citadel begins Southern Conference play Friday at Mercer.
After Tuesday, the teams’ paths diverge. Georgia’s next home game is March 24 against Kennesaw State. The Citadel hosts Clemson on Wednesday before its weekend series at Mercer.
