Holy Cross at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Army Black Knights and Holy Cross Crusaders will conclude a three-game Patriot League series Sunday at Johnson Stadium at Doubleday Field, with both teams seeking momentum as conference play begins.

First pitch is scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a temperature of 44 degrees.

Army (6-8) took the first two games of the series, winning 5-0 on both Friday and Saturday. The Black Knights’ pitching has stifled the Crusaders’ offense, which has been held scoreless for 18 consecutive innings entering the finale.

Holy Cross (4-11) looks to avoid the sweep and snap a five-game losing skid. The Crusaders’ most recent win was a 7-2 victory at Seattle on March 1.

A key player for Holy Cross is reliever Aidan Gilbert. In his last appearance on March 8 at Portland, he threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Over his last four outings spanning 7 2/3 innings, he has allowed just one earned run.

For Army, reliever Walker Calvo has been effective. In his last outing on March 11 against Merrimack, he pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts. He has not allowed a hit in his last 2 2/3 innings of work.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Holy Cross 5, Army 4.

Following Sunday’s game, Army will host Massachusetts on Tuesday. Holy Cross travels to play Bryant on Tuesday.
