Saint Joseph`s at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — The Richmond Spiders will look to even their Atlantic 10 series with the Saint Joseph’s Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Malcolm U. Pitt Field after dropping a high-scoring opener.

First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon under cloudy skies with temperatures near 51 degrees.

Richmond (10-8) fell 11-9 to the Hawks on Friday despite a powerful performance from catcher Dylan Winebrenner, who went 2 for 6 with two home runs and five RBIs. The Spiders’ bullpen struggled, surrendering nine runs over the final three innings to squander a strong six-inning, 10-strikeout start from Chase Topolski.

Saint Joseph’s (6-8) rallied for the win, keyed by a perfect 4-for-4 day from third baseman Richard Beggy and three shutout relief innings from pitcher Matt Speicher. Speicher, a player to watch for the Hawks, has been dominant in two of his last three outings, allowing no hits and striking out 11 over 6 2/3 combined innings against Richmond and Sacramento State.

Winebrenner remains a key bat for Richmond. Before his quiet 1-for-3 performance in a midweek rout of Coppin State, he had recorded hits in five of his previous six games.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 Richmond victory, with its ELO rating system giving the Spiders a 57.3% probability to win.

The series concludes Sunday.
