Sanders, Late Rally Lift Baylor Over West Virginia in Big 12 Opener

WACO, Texas (Interstat) — Travis Sanders drove in four runs, including the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning, to rally Baylor past West Virginia 7-6 on Friday night at Baylor Ballpark in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

The Bears erased a five-run deficit with a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by Sanders’ two-run single. West Virginia built its early lead with a four-run fourth. Sean Smith and Matthew Ineich homered for the Mountaineers, but Baylor’s bullpen combination of Lucas Davenport, Charlie Atkinson and RJ Ruais provided 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Baylor improved to 11-6 overall. West Virginia fell to 11-4. The teams continue their series Saturday.
