Wildcats Rally Past Shockers in Midweek Showdown
MANHATTAN, Kan. (Interstat) — Kansas State rallied from an early five-run deficit to defeat Wichita State 7-5 on Tuesday at Tointon Family Stadium.
The Wildcats scored twice in the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie. Carlos Vasquez hit an RBI triple and scored on Kyan Kendrick’s go-ahead double. Wichita State had built a 5-0 lead in the first inning, aided by Jayson Jones’ run-scoring fielder’s choice. Jones later homered and finished with three RBIs.
Kansas State chipped away, getting a two-run homer from Dee Kennedy in the third. Four Wildcats relievers, led by Robert Fortenberry, combined for five hitless innings to secure the win. The Shockers used five pitchers who did not allow a hit over the final 4 1/3 innings, but the early damage held.
Kansas State improved to 11-3. Wichita State fell to 9-6.
