Jackson State at Nicholls State

Rain Expected as Colonels Host Tigers in Midweek Matchup

THIBODAUX, La. (March 10, 2026) (Interstat) — The Nicholls State Colonels look to move above .500 as they host the Jackson State Tigers in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday at Ray E. Didier Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under a forecast of 80-degree temperatures and rain.

The Colonels (9-8) enter having won four of their last five, including a weekend series victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Nicholls State erupted for 14 runs in the series finale Saturday, powered by Greyson Shafer (3-for-5, HR, 4 RBIs) and Keegan Giger (3-for-6, HR, 3 RBIs).

Jackson State (7-8) arrives after dropping two of three at Seattle, including a 6-4 loss Sunday. Tigers second baseman Payton Boines homered in that defeat.

A key matchup features both teams’ recent starting pitchers. Nicholls State is expected to send Dawson Richard to the mound. The right-hander is coming off a dominant performance, throwing five hitless innings with seven strikeouts in a win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 7.

Jackson State will counter with Jayden Lopez, who started Sunday’s loss at Seattle. Lopez worked six innings, allowing four earned runs on zero hits with four strikeouts. Control was an issue, as he issued several walks ahead of the scoring plays.

The Colonels hold a slight edge in season record and recent form. According to Interstat’s game simulator, Nicholls State is projected to win 7-5.

Following Tuesday’s contest, Nicholls State opens a three-game home series against Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Friday. Jackson State travels to begin a series at Texas Southern on Friday.
