Alabama A&M at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — A pair of struggling Bulldog squads meet Tuesday when Samford hosts Alabama A&M in a nonconference baseball matchup at Joe Lee Griffin Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon with a 78-degree forecast calling for rain.

Both teams enter on losing streaks. Alabama A&M (3-12) has dropped four straight, including a three-game weekend sweep at UNC Asheville capped by a 12-7 loss Sunday. Samford (5-9) has lost three of its last four, falling 9-8 at Kennesaw State on Saturday.

A key player to watch for the visiting Bulldogs is center fielder Brycen Hammonds. He is coming off a 3-for-5, two-RBI performance Sunday and has driven in six runs over his last ten games. For Samford, right-hander Joseph Lee is a notable arm. He worked four hitless innings in relief Saturday, though he allowed four earned runs with four strikeouts against Kennesaw State. In his previous outing, he earned a win against Bowling Green with four innings of one-run ball.

Samford holds a slight edge in the season series, having won two of three meetings last season. According to Interstat’s game simulator, this year’s contest is projected to be a tight pitchers’ duel, with a final score of Samford 3, Alabama A&M 2.

Following this midweek game, Alabama A&M begins a three-game home series against Alcorn State on Friday. Samford opens a three-game set against Arkansas-Little Rock at home on Friday.
