Preview: Fairfield Stags at Saint John’s Red Storm

QUEENS, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Tuesday evening when the Fairfield Stags visit the Saint John’s Red Storm at Jack Kaiser Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures around 70 degrees.

Both sides enter with struggling overall records. Fairfield (2-9) snapped a five-game skid with a 12-3 road win at Siena on Saturday. Saint John’s (4-10) took two of three from Albany over the weekend, including a 4-3 victory Sunday.

The game features a compelling pitching matchup. Fairfield will look to right-hander Brendon Miller, who is coming off a dominant performance. On March 7 against Siena, Miller pitched seven innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts in the win. In his last two starts, he has combined for 11 innings, allowing just one earned run.

He will be opposed by Saint John’s right-hander Ian Mowad. Mowad earned the win on March 8 against Albany, throwing five innings and allowing one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts.

Offensively, Fairfield’s lineup broke out Saturday. Shortstop Luke Nomura hit a home run and drove in four runs, while center fielder TJ Schmalzle added three RBIs. For Saint John’s, first baseman Adam Agresti provided key power in the weekend series, including a two-run homer Sunday.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Saint John’s 2, Fairfield 1.

Following Tuesday’s contest, Fairfield begins a three-game home series against Manhattan on Friday. Saint John’s will host Marist on Wednesday before traveling for a four-game series at Charlotte starting Friday.
