Vanderbilt Aims to Rebound Against Indiana State in Midweek Clash
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Vanderbilt Commodores look to steady themselves after a series loss when they host the Indiana State Sycamores in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday evening at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with temperatures around 63 degrees.
Vanderbilt (10-7) enters having dropped two of three to North Dakota State last weekend, including a 5-2 defeat Sunday. The Commodores’ bullpen was a bright spot in the loss, with reliever Luke Guth striking out four over two scoreless innings. Guth has been a reliable arm, not allowing an earned run in his last five appearances spanning 6.1 innings, during which he has recorded 13 strikeouts.
Indiana State (7-8) also seeks momentum after losing its weekend series at Western Kentucky, falling 7-4 on Sunday. Sycamores reliever Grant Parson was effective in that loss, striking out five in 4.2 innings, though he was charged with three earned runs. Parson’s recent outings have been uneven, as he has surrendered 11 earned runs over his last 9.2 innings pitched across three appearances.
The Commodores hold the edge in overall record and will play their fifth consecutive game at home, where they are 7-4 this season. Indiana State is 2-5 in true road games.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects to be close, with a predicted final score of Vanderbilt 6, Indiana State 5.
This game serves as a final tune-up before both teams dive into demanding weekend series. Vanderbilt opens Southeastern Conference play Friday against LSU, while Indiana State begins Missouri Valley Conference action at home against Gonzaga.
Following Tuesday’s game, Vanderbilt will host Indiana next Tuesday before its SEC series with Mississippi State. Indiana State travels to face Indiana on March 24 after its series with Bradley.
