Florida Gulf Coast at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Interstat) — The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles look to secure a series victory when they visit the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats for the rubber match of their three-game set Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles (11-3) and Wildcats (9-5) split the first two contests, with FGCU claiming an 11-5 win Friday before Bethune-Cookman evened the series Saturday with a shutout victory.

Sunday’s finale features two of the region’s hottest hitters. FGCU catcher Jon Embury is a central figure in the Eagles’ potent offense, coming off a two-homer, four-RBI performance in Friday’s win. Over his last 10 games, Embury has driven in 23 runs, showcasing consistent power.

Bethune-Cookman will counter with second baseman Jeter Polledo, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the series opener. Polledo has been a reliable contributor for the Wildcats, recording a hit in seven of his last 10 games.

The Eagles have been one of the nation’s early offensive juggernauts, averaging over eight runs per game during their 11-3 start. Their three losses have been by a combined seven runs. Bethune-Cookman has shown resilience, bouncing back from a midweek loss at Miami with a strong defensive effort Saturday.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, a high-scoring affair is projected, with Florida Gulf Coast edging Bethune-Cookman 8-7.

Following Sunday’s contest, FGCU travels to face Florida International on Tuesday. Bethune-Cookman hits the road for a matchup at North Florida the same day.
